How To Make It In Fashion L.A.

I was fortunate enough to attend "How To Make It In Fashion" hosted by Fashionista - and it was phenomenal. It was an all-day conference giving us an opportunity to hear from industry professionals, have a one-on-one mentoring session with a professional in our area of interest (I met with Chelsea Matthews, founder of Matte Black), and a chance to network, network, network. 

Here's basically how I spent the day in the beautiful W Hollywood, surrounding by fabulously dressed individuals:

It was awesome to be able to have a more personal conversation with industry professionals and hear each individual story and their advice. L'Wren Scott was the Keynote Presentation - and I was in awe. The way she told each story, it was if we were actually in the atelier with her and Karl. (I bumped into her on my way out of the bathroom and I'm still fangirling at the fact that she acknowledged my existence and spoke to me.) Anyway, through all the speakers and conversations with industry professionals, I found a consistency amongst the many pieces of advice given, that could be summed up in five points:

1. Never look back

"Fashion is like a treadmill; once you get on that treadmill, you don't get off. You have to keep on your treadmill and keep moving forward at all times. Don't look back."

2. Don't rush to the finish line

"Be mindful of watching, learning, listening. You're there to learn...Wait until it's your turn."

3. Just Ask. Be Brave. Be Fearless.

4. Talk once, listen twice. Take out your ego.

Needless to say, this was one of my favorite events and it was worth every dime. I left incredibly motivated, with exclusive advice, several business cards, and an awesome gift bag.
